The biblical heroine Yael (often rendered "Jael") is arguably the most badass figure in the book of Judges. When the enemy general Sisera reaches her encampment, weary from battle, she seduces him, feeds him milk, puts him to sleep, and hammers a tent spike through his head, killing him.

In the 2nd century "Antiquities of the Jews", we're given a much more detailed description than in the Book of Judges: In it we are told that as Sisera fell asleep, she uttered the prayer the prayer "Strengthen in me today, YHVH, my hand for the sake of your nation and those who put their faith in you."

The incense that Moses composed in her honor combines feminine florals, alluring resins, strong woody notes, and sanctifying herbals to capture and convey Yael's complexity.
